Win 7 Backup: "network location cannot be used" (0x800704B3)
Hello, I'm using Win 7 Pro and all of a sudden I can't backup to any network location. It had been working fine for a week or so, and now it fails. I had thought it was just the specific NAS I was using, so I tried a few other destinations on the network and I always get the same error. Here's the error message: The specified network location cannot be used. Verify the path points to a correct network location and that the supplied credentials can be used for write access to the folder. *Details*: The network path was either typed incorrectly, does not exist, or the network provider is not currently available. Please try retyping the path or contact your network administrator. (0x800704B3) Here's what I've tried: 1. Plug in a spare USB drive to my server, and share a folder within that drive (as a simple test to backup to this folder) 2. Ensure this path is accessible (from the workstation having the backup problem) by entering it into the Run... box (i.e. copy and paste); the network share opens fine 3. Ensure write permissions by creating a new text file in the network share (no problem) 4. Check security properties on server (setup to allow Everyone full control in sharing and security) 5. Since I can access this location from the workstation with my standard log-in credentials, this is what I'm entering into the Username/Password box for the Win 7 backup setup. I have other Win 7 machines setup this exact same way and they work with no problems. (Interestingly when I change the username or password, the error changes to a bad username/password error). Any help would be great! Thanks, Brian

Hi, To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on each machine and run a backup test. If the issue persists, please restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and check the result. Does the issue persist? If so, please move on the next steps. 2. Back up another partition or certain folder to the network location. Can the backup procedure be completed? 3. Run a Check Disk to fix disk errors. If the issue persists, please capture the error message and upload it to Skydrive (www.skydrive.live.com), and then share the link to me for research.
